Hometown: Tarifa, Spain
Gisela Pulido is the youngest world champion in the history of kitesurfing. From a young age, Gisela showed an acute interest in all things related to the sea and sports with an element of risk – something she inherited from her father.
Gisela’s breakthrough came in 2004, when she was crowned KPWT world champion – a feat she has repeated nine times. 2006 also proved to be a remarkable year for the young Spanish kiteboarder. With a number of sporting accolades under her belt, Gisela attracted a host of sponsors, topping the season off with a win at the Spanish Championship. She raised the bar yet again when she entered the Guinness World Records as the Youngest World Champion, aged just 13.
Internationally recognised for her sport and her astounding abilities at such a young age, Gisela really is the sporting prodigy of her time. Even between juggling her hectic career, media attention and essential studies, she still found the time to open her own kitesurfing school in Tarifa – Spanish Kite Boarding Paradise – in 2009. Since then, Gisela’s winning streak remains.
Favorite kiteboarding/surfing/windsurf /etc. spot?
Tarifa, my home town. Usually the conditions here are quite tough, but when it gets good you can have the best session ever. We have som flat water spots behind sandbanks and really steady winds. Also I like to ride with my friends, I wouldn’t change that for anything in the world!
What is the most daring thing you have ever done?
I think when crossing the Gibraltar Strait competing agains the ferry that goes from Tarifa to Tanger (Morocco). Was scary at some moments, but the adrenaline and the feeling while riding so close to a big ship was insane. I would do it again!
Best kiteboard/surf/windsurf trip?
Panama, Nitro City. Sick conditions to ride and the best vibes ever. You can do so much more besides kiting as well. Cable park, surfing, chill in the pool, go find some waterfalls, ride a bike, skate. Full action resort! The least time you spend is in your room!
Many people say I have a very positive energy and happy vibes, so when I’m around I make people more relaxed and chilled. Don’t know if its true!
Be able to represent my country in the Olympics and surf a big wave.
Favorite way to stay in bikini shape?
Eat healthy and run when you can! it doesn’t take any effort to bring your running shoes where ever you go!
Five things you couldn’t live without?
Let’s say my 5 essentials are kiteboarding, fruits, running, friends and family.
