We are so thrilled to welcome this amazing woman to Team Sensi! Anna Nikstad is a professional wakeboarder and absolute shredder. As Wakeboarding Mag puts it:
Whether she's riding at the acclaimed Valdosta Yard Sale event with all the guys, putting out edits from various parks around the world, or winning the Wake Award for 2017 Female Trick of the Year, Anna has been doing it all with a ferocity and style that hasn't been seen in women's riding in some time.
Anna grew up watching all her older brothers wakeboarding but never really gave it a chance until she was 18 years old. She was soon hooked, and has been riding almost every day since! Anna has traveled all around the world competing on the Pro tour and claimed her first World championship title along with 2 national titles.
Read on as Anna shares more about her life in the interview below. And stay tuned as she takes over our Instagram on Monday, February 18th! Have any questions for her? Send 'em our way and we'll have her answer them on Monday!
"It really all started as a hobby that turned in to a dream for me and I am so fortunate to be where I am at today. Wakeboarding has taught me so much about myself when it comes to handling pressure, facing my fears, and encountering the various cultures and settings that the sport has taken me to."
How do you go about learning new tricks?
The biggest part of my technique is visualizing myself doing the new trick I
have in mind. I tend to think about new tricks so hard that I will even have
dreams about them. It is almost as if once I feel it in my dreams, I feel like I
have already done it so I can usually go figure it out on the water in my next
What are your goals?
My overall goal is to be a pioneer in womenʼs wake boarding and help pave
the way for any future female shredders to bring the sport as far as we can
take it. My other goal is to have as much fun as possible while doing all this.
Whatʼs one thing that got you where you are today?
I would have to say my big brother, Erik Nikstad. He was the catalyst in
learning my abilities and my attitude that I have grown into today. He has been
my coach and best friend since day one. Without a doubt, I would not be here
if it wasnʼt for him pushing me and helping me realize my own capabilities.
Describe a day in the life of Anna Nikstad.
That's kind of a hard one because it could be waking up and going straight to
the gym and then straight to work if I am at home in Texas trying to save up for
my next trip, or it could be waking up with the sun in the Philippines at my
favorite wake park CWC, climbing the fourth tower with a cup of tea and then
wakeboarding/filming all day long or it could be waking up, having a quick
Swedish fika and then going snowboarding at the local ski hill in Sweden
where my boyfriend, William Klang, and I get to spend some time to ourselves.
What are your must-have travel essentials?
- When I travel, my carryon bag normally has a pair of headphones,
moisturizer, wet wipes, sanitizer, my notebook/sketch book, my laptop, and
most importantly, coco oil because it fixes everything.
-my favorite trick to do is a either an indie roll to blind or a melon backside 720
because they just feel soooooo good.
