One of my favorite quotes, attributed to Oprah, is "If you don't appreciate what you have, you'll never have enough". I've found this to be so true, over and over again in my life. Not only does gratitude make us appreciate all that we have, incorporating gratitude into our days has been proven to lower stress, lower depression and increase happiness (Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine). By this time, we all know that practicing gratitude is something we should do but where to start?
Read on for the easiest ways to add more gratitude into your life.
1. Practice in the car. Every time you get behind the wheel, start thinking of things you're grateful for. Say your gratitudes out loud as you drive.
2. As soon as you wake up in the morning, give thanks for the day. "Thank you for another beautiful day on this planet", is simple to remember and sets you up for a great day.
3. Use an app or keep a journal. Personally, I prefer putting pen to paper. If I'm really killing the game, my morning ritual includes a cup of hot lemon water and my journal, where I write down my gratitudes and affirmations.
Be inspired this Thanksgiving to make a gratitude a daily practice! Share your attitude of gratitude with family and friends and inspire others to take part.
