Exercise Disguised as Summer Fun

Sensi Ambassador Meg O'Hara is a kiteboarder, artist, and outdoor enthusiast who believes that the best and easiest way to take care of our bodies and minds is to treat exercise as medicine.  Read on for Meg's tips on making exercise fun - it doesn't have to be a chore, especially during the summer! Summer is a perfect opportunity to play and exercise outdoors. The sun is shining, the grass is green, the water is warm and Mother Nature provides the world’s #1 gym. To make your summer workout even easier, I’ve come up with a list of exercises that you can do outside to get sweaty, work on your tan, and have fun… -Jump Rope: It isn't just for kids. In fact, 30 minutes of jump roping will get your heart pumping and burns about three hundred calories. Also, jump roping works your legs, core, booty and arms… talk about a full body work out! -Hula Hoop: At first I thought this was only for music festivals, but hula hooping is actually so much fun to do at the beach and gives you a very unique workout. Hula hooping burns about 200 calories per half hour and works your core and legs. -Frisbee and Frisbee Golf: It may not be a crazy cardio work out, but it sure is fun! Grab a beer and rally some friends to go toss around a Frisbee. Being with your friends outdoors while getting exercise is the perfect way to enjoy summer. -Tennis: With public courts all over the place, tennis is a great sport to play. Buying the equipment is cheap, and playing tennis is a fun cardio workout that uses your whole body. -Hikes: Especially if you live near the mountains, this is one of the best ways to see nature and get fit doing it. The clean air, beautiful views and resulting fit body are exactly what the doctor ordered! -Learn A New Sport: Trying a new sport keeps you from getting stuck in a routine, allows you to find a new passion and stimulates different parts of your brain. If you’ve been meaning to learn to surf, try out rock climbing, or get into mountain biking, then do it! There’s no time like the present.  The benefits of exercise are incredible, and exercise should be an enjoyable task that’s scheduled into everyday. Treat fun as exercise and exercise as medicine.
